TYT'S TH-446 is the best quality PMR446 transceiver we've seen yet. It is fully compliant with the PMR446 regulations, with a fixed antenna, eight pre-programmed channels and a 0.5 Watt power output.
It has a drop-in charging base that can be be powered from either the 3-pin UK mains power supply or 12V car adapter, both of which are included with the radio.
The 7.4V 1300 mAh Li-Ion battery can also be charged independently of the radio in the drop-in charging base.
The radio is CE-approved and ROHS compliant.
The ace up the TH-446's sleeve is that, for those who have the appropriate licence, we can unlock it via software to cover 400 - 470 MHz. This includes the UK UHF PMR business frequencies and the 70 cm amateur allocation (please note that the frequencies you wish to access must be stored into memory, as the radio does not have a VFO mode and therefore cannot tune freely through the frequency range).
When unlocked in this manner power output rises to 4 Watts. As such it is ideal for PMR446 users who are not sure if they need or want a business licence, or are considering going on to obtain an amateur radio qualification. In both cases they can continue to use the same radio without having to purchase new equipment.
NB: The radio needs to be returned to us for unlocking, or we can do so prior to dispatch if provided with your licence details.
